I do. My favourite part about you were your ears! Now they're gone. Woe is me.
[ But she can't even finish that last sentence before she's laughing. Right, they're gonna be here all day being gross towards each other if this keeps up.
Tapping him once on his chest, she lets go of his hair and pushes herself up. ]
Come on. Let's go get dressed and do some sightseeing.
[ It's okay. Cloud can't finish his own sentence either without suppressing the urge to laugh.
As if the tap on his chest turned him on again (not that way! ...like an "on" button,) he rolls forward until he's sitting upright, full of energy again. ]
Gotcha.
[ In fact, he springs out of bed, eager to get this birthday girl's day really started. After washing up and getting changed, as he foregoes his usual home attire, the weather is pleasant enough that he doesn't bother with a jacket, sporting a white v-neck shirt and casual blue jeans; he still wasn't as fashionable as others were, but he'd found new fits in due time while staying in Lunatia. It also didn't hurt that he had a myriad of friends who would call him out on his "limited" wardrobe.
Besides. It's the night where he'll suit up for her. ]
[ They're just going sightseeing, but Weiss still wants to look nice! Putting on her sundress doesn't take too long, but she does take some time in the bathroom when she brushes her hair and ties it up into her usual braid. Of course, she doesn't let Cloud know she's ready until her beloved necklace is on her, as well as the new bracelet she's been given.
As for what sights to see? The Red Spring is in the mountains, so there's a lot more nature compared to what they're used to. There's training grounds further up the area, and even a place for ziplining, amongst other outdoor activities! Not Weiss' thing, but if Cloud wants to try these out, then she'll try them out with him. ]
Did you bring some looser clothes? We can probably run in the morning tomorrow.
[ He wasn't counting on them going on a morning jog while it was her birthday, but considering how often they go out and routinely exercise (not counting farm chores which can be labor-heavy too), he also played it safe while packing. He doesn't wear the Schnee family brooch in this outside, but it does stay on his person, pocketed for safekeeping. It fits better on a suit or even on his heavier regular attire. It doesn't take long to do his hair either, a little but of brushing to make sure there weren't any stray spikes...
Yes. There's a method to the head of spikes atop that head of his. ]
You wanna do that on your birthday getaway though? [ It never hurts to ask. ] We could make it up when we go back.
[ Only for Cloud to piggyback Weiss throughout the rest of it. ]
N-No. It's not that. I'm good doing it or not doing it.
[ He huffs, the corner of his mouth tugging in slight amusement as he shakes his head. Now that they're ready to go, and with key on hand, he holds the door open for his girlfriend so they can get going. ]
[ Said to reassure him that it's fine. This might be her birthday getaway, but it doesn't mean she wants to let loose and not do the usual things they do! This is still special.
And as soon as Cloud's locked the door, she's taking his hand in hers. If they pass by the receptionist from last night? Well... Weiss just won't talk to her. Cloud can say hi for all she cares. ]
So... we'll look around first. Do you want to have lunch out, or should we go back to the room for lunch?
[ If that's what Weiss wants? It's what he wants too. In that case, he wouldn't have it any other way. Squeezing her hand when she takes it, he only offers a chancing glance to the receptionist when they wish them a good day. Courteous enough! Today is all about Weiss. That and he knows Weiss may or may not be a tad huffy over the whole fiancé ordeal. ...he blushes thinking about it, but is quick to dismiss the thought when she asks about lunch.
[ And off they go! With the sun out, a lot of people vacationing at the Red Spring are out. A lot of the tourists can be found by the outdoor cafe or by the pool, walking around and doing other outdoor activities. As for Weiss? This is her first time actually going around the place. Arriving here a couple of months ago wasn't pleasant. A few days felt like eternity, wracked with worry for what she's left behind in Prismatica, and one particular person who wasn't with her. During her stay here, she kept to herself, barely talking to anyone but Ren since he was the only familiar face around. But... there was never any fun in it.
Now, though? She gets to see what the world has to offer with a different set of eyes. There's more colour, and everything just feels alive. While Weiss may have a lot of worries about the state of Remnant and her family and friends, she finds it in herself to at least spare some time to be happy. Every day since she woke up after being asleep for over a day, she'd been spending some time in reading about magic, learning more of what she can about this world so she can bring a solution back to Remnant.
At times, she's up late, unable to properly sleep because she's scared. But because she's always been one to move forward, there's not much she shows of it to the surface.
The scenery is beautiful up here in the mountains. Weiss isn't used to being surrounded by nature, but Cloud won't hear a single complaint from her as they follow a trail that leads to the middle of a forest. They were told there's a petting zoo! And because it's Weiss? They actually take far longer than intended. She gets caught up taking pictures and flipping out over a badger because it looks so cute?! CLOUD, LOOK AT THE BADGER!!!!
Eventually, Weiss calms down and decides to move on. Good for them, because it does take some time to pick a restaurant! There's so many to choose from— either the local resort one, or one of the restaurants in the mountains, or by the lakeside. And then they have to wait to be seated because they didn't have a reservation. All fine! Weiss is more than willing to wait. And the day goes on so smoothly, even after lunch when they head back to their room.
They have about half an hour to rest and dress up. The dancing lessons are set to begin then, and because Cloud promised they would dance? It feels like something she's been looking forward to her entire life. So much so that when she's done dressing up in the bathroom, she peeks out of the door to ask: ]
Are you done dressing up? [ He said he'd put on a suit, after all! That's even more exciting!! She's practically beaming with so much energy right now. She closes the door shut and hides back inside the bathroom after calling out to him. ] I don't want to spoil the surprise!
[ Of him in a suit... she's just too excited that she wants the suit reveal to be grand. Well, grand for her, anyway. ]
[ Cloud hadn't much of a reason to come back to the Red Spring after he'd found Weiss and the others. Granted, there was a good chance others would have arrived at some point. For the longest while, Cloud had ultimately decided to acclimate to this world alongside the Huntress. With Prismatica seemingly restored to its former glory, not to mention Gaia still in a state of healing after what happened with Meteor and the stigma, the bonds he made with others from different worlds helped him see a bigger picture. Knowing the turmoil that Remnant faces even now, it was no wonder his priorities lay with that world. Weiss was a part of it.
Even the talk he had with Maribelle the night of the masquerade in Camelot held significant importance to him. The idea of everyone being connected, in more ways than they could ever fully understand. How those bonds bring everyone together no matter the distance...
He won't lose sight of what's important to him. But if there's anything life on Prismatica taught him, let alone getting in a relationship with Weiss, it's that living day by day and cherishing each moment became that much more important to him. Which is why he was as patient as can be when they took in the scenery, or went to the petting zoo. The badger was cute, the deer were sweet and affectionate, and the petting zoo's goat also somehow had beef with the blond swordsman. Such little mundane things, but he looks at the look of sheer joy on Weiss' face and finds everything worthwhile. It's been a great day so far, and that didn't even cover the end of their night!
Because it was finally time. ]
Just about! [ He calls back from the bedroom, having taken to dressing up out here while Weiss took the bathroom. He wasn't lying either. This was one of the few times he took extra care in fussing over his appearance. In his old SOLDIER uniform or recent fighting gear, he at least cared about his hair when styling it. Otherwise, the rest of the outfit just fell into place. This time, he needs to make sure there's little crinkling, or his tie was fixed on right. Or that his collar wasn't lopsided...
The less Weiss has to fuss over, the better. But maybe...just maybe, that's part of the fun too. Which is why it's a good thing that his tie isn't perfectly straight. Maybe she'll notice! ]
The less you gotta fix up for me, the better.
[ It...still feels stuffy in comparison to what he's used to. But he's donned similar garb in the past, having at least gotten used to it. Reno, he imagines is fine since he wears his suit so open. But he can't imagine wearing a suit all day if he were someone like Tseng or Rude... It may not be his style. But when Cloud wants to kill it? He kills it. ]
How 'bout you?
[ He calls back, straightening his jacket as he gives himself one more onceover. A dark suit, accented with traces of white. Definitely a step-up over just showing up in his vest and pants for a dance. Nervous? A little. He's suited up before. But not like this. Not for Weiss, whose approval he can't help start blushing over as he feels the anticipation build. He's seen her in so many beautiful outfits; she catches his breath every time. But...would he have the same reaction?
Even if he didn't, as long as he still looked the part for their outing, that's what he cares about the most. ...still, please like it please like it please like it please like it— ]
[ Weiss doesn't intend to strut when she walks out of the bathroom, but she does look at herself in the mirror again to see if she looks okay. Hair, check! Makeup, check! Her dress looks fine, too— nothing out of place, and the ribbons look very tidy. She flattens her skirt so when it puffs up, there's no pleat that's out of place. A deep breath, and: ]
Ready!
[ She'll be casual when she goes out, but when she does? Cloud might actually get her to stop in her tracks. ]
Alright... You've seen her a hundred times over already. You'll be fi-
[ "Ready!" ]
'Kay.
[ Hand on his hip, he tries to play it cool when Weiss steps out for him to see. It's so simple yet elegant all at once. His bright mako-infused blues widen at the sight of her. Saying Weiss was stunning was an understatement; then again, she never had to try very hard to get him to turn his head, before they even started dating. Still! He's seen her dressed up many times before. So while he's still enamored with her, it's a little easier to keep his cool than it was at the start of their relationship. He smiles. ]
You look great.
[ As for Weiss though... ]
... Weiss?
[ His eyes widen a little, curious as they meet across the bedroom. He hasn't caught on that his suit might have done something to her. Not yet anyway. ]
... [ Cloud does well in catching her attention. Ah— she didn't mean to stare, not did she mean for her cheeks to get so red. ] I knew I had a good reason for wanting to see you in a suit.
[ Oh god. She feels so nervous all of a sudden. Like she's confessing to her crush for the first time. Which is something she'll be embarrassed about later on. The two of them have been dating each other for well over a year now, and here she is, feeling shy about how she's feeling. What's worse is that she's confessed far more embarrassing things to him! ]
You... look really handsome.
[ As embarrassing as this is, and even though she can't find it in herself to look him in the eye, she walks over to him. Both of her hands are at her front, one holding the other when she stops in front of him. She's acting so prim, as if she'd been told by her father to present herself the young man in the suit and ask him for a dance because his family may be very wealthy. But this time? She's in front of him and smiling at him due to pure love and affection. No one forced her to do this at all.
But it's at this distance where she's about to claim her dance partner that she notices something off. ]
Oh, your— [ Right. It's far easier to fix it for him rather than talking him through it. Reaching to fix his tie, their eyes make contact again and she finds herself immediately looking away. ] There. All better.
[ A cant of his head as he resists the temptation to wave a hand in front of her. Hello? Earth to Weiss? Come in, Weiss. Despite his curious look of her, the other part of him (the one that knows better) couldn't help but feel self-conscious. Not necessarily because of his outfit. But... Damn it, she's cute. It's not every day he gets to see this shy side of her, and her pale complexion makes it easier for those cheeks to get rosy. ]
(Shit...)
[ Cloud realizes this, flush in the face as she closes what little distance is between them. ]
Y-Yeah? [ Giving himself a onceover, he can only do so for so long before he finds himself looking back up at Weiss again. That adorable smile. The soft blue ribbon tying her braid. The grace in her pose while acting so embarrassed. ] I wasn't sure...
[ "Oh, your—" ]
Huh?
[ Standing up straight for her, he doesn't take his eyes off her for an instant. Maybe that's a mistake in hindsight, because now his heart is racing faster than before. All this time his hands sit idle. He could hold her, take her hand, anything at this point! But every time he thinks of something to do. As he takes in every little part of her... ]
Ah... I can't. [ He can't fix anything on her this time. They make eye contact, and while she immediately looks away...he gently cups the side of her face, beckoning her to look back when he confesses, ] You're already perfect.
[ It's these soft gestures that actually calm the former heiress down. Just like before. The first time Cloud did this, she'd exposed herself to him when she wanted to "finish what they started". The scars and burn marks she had on her side, and how dark they are compared to her skin, were something she wasn't exactly excited to show off. But Cloud did this. He cupped her cheek and held her hand, and he kissed her. He showed her that it was okay, that she didn't have anything to be ashamed about. Not with him. He did the same thing when she felt so disgusted with how she looked when the Cordis moon turned her into a kit fox. Her hair had changed in colour, and she refused to see Cloud for days on end because she didn't want him to see her like this. When she thought that he wouldn't like her because of how much she'd changed.
What else can she do now but believe him when he says that? Her heart still feels like it's going to explode any time soon, but... there's no reason to feel any bashful now. He looks good— she's said it already, but he comes at her with an even bigger compliment and she doesn't want to make this all about her. It might be her birthday, but Cloud is the reason why this day is worth celebrating again, to begin with. ]
So... we match?
[ Weiss just gets really fussy with his clothing, but she doesn't mean anything bad by it. Now, it's become a habit to fix his collar or his tie or his buttons or whatever else. Just another way of showing that she cares. But despite all that, there's nothing that she ever wants Cloud to change. So when Cloud tells her she's perfect? It's only because she wanted to match with Cloud, in the same way that she wanted them to match and have themed outfits when they went to the Spring Equinox masquerade. ]
There's just one more thing missing, though—
[ Placing her hand over his on her cheek, she takes a step forward and gets on her toes to kiss him on the lips. This has nothing to do with what's missing in his attire. It's just Weiss' excuse for wanting to climbkiss him for looking so good this afternoon. ]
[ Sure, Cloud tried putting honest effort into finding this. It also cost him a pretty coin or two. But it also helps that when it came to spending, he was rather frugal on most days. He had his weapon, home necessities and groceries when it was his turn to provide for everyone living on the farm. A suit? Not out of the ordinary for him after all the things he saved up on. Weiss' reaction and amour for him when he puts effort into something like this? Makes it all the more worthwhile. ]
Yeah?
[ An unspoken "and what would that be?" fills the air between them, knowing as she gets on her toes and kisses him on the lips. His surprise is fleeting, leaning down just enough to press his lips to hers more firmly. Savoring the moment, it takes all of his willpower not to break the kiss and slip an arm around her waist. They need to save the dancing for their booked session later.
Still, he doesn't make any attempts to release her or draw away from the kiss. It's the missing piece, after all. ]
[ There's nothing rushed with the kiss, even though they do have some place to be! In fact, Weiss even lets go of his hand so she can wrap her arms around his neck. Lock him in place. Make sure he never leaves. Her foot pops at the same time.
A kiss so magical isn't enough to make Weiss forget about the bigger picture here, at least. Because she certainly does not forget that Cloud is in a suit, and he's going to be strutting that cute butt around very, very soon. And so, she pulls away slightly, already catching her breath even if she hasn't broken a sweat yet. ]
... we'll be late if we don't go. Don't make me want to kiss you again, or else we'll never leave at this rate.
[ Weiss wrapping her arms around his neck? Definitely would have done more to him if they didn't have someplace to be. Even now it's tempting. But right now he has a promise to keep. With a softened gasp of his own once Weiss draws away, he unintentionally wets his lips, an action that gets him clearing his throat as he recomposes himself. ]
You drive a hard bargain.
[ Oh. When did his arms settle around her waist? Whoops. They're not supposed to dance in here. ]
[ Yup. That one kiss from Cloud? The last one for now. She's giddy and giggling when she takes his hand and pulls him away. She's got her purse with her, anyway, and unless Cloud has anything he's forgotten to bring? She's also dragging him out the door.
And as it turns out? The dance lessons the Red Spring is offering? It's something a lot of tourists are looking forward to! The only problem is...
]
This is... awkward.
[ They're surrounded by people who are older than them. All the other participants in the class are seated, waiting for the instructor to arrive. Some of the ladies are whispering to one another as their eyes are on the blond. Oh god, do they want to be dance partners with Cloud???? ]
[ Cloud's the farthest from giddy and giggling. ...the former on the surface, at least. He'd be a liar if he didn't say that he was excited. When they first looked into the dance lessons offered by the Red Spring, he imagined there would be a myriad of different people there! How many people would show up? Maybe a few couples or something? The Red Spring was rather quaint despite being a tourist hotspot in this land and— ]
— — —
[ "This is... awkward." ]
Yup.
[ Cloud suddenly feels...way overdressed. In fact, while everyone in attendance is dressed up? He feels like he's sticking out. ...or maybe it's the hair. Because he can tell the murmurings among the older ladies are being directed at him. "So handsome-" he hears. But with eyes on them, he gives his girlfriend a sideways glance, not knowing whether they should say hi or not. At least they should take a seat instead of standing out like this. Right? ]
...
[ Okay, Cloud. Take charge. ]
Guess we better grab a seat.
[ Giving a half-assed, wordless wave with his free hand, and holding Weiss' hand in the other, he tries avoiding eye contact with the older dancers. At least everybody seems respectful? Hopefully?? There's a few extra seats available, he notes as he leads Weiss along so that they can take a spot. He'll wait for her to sit first before he takes his spot beside her. Everyone, for the most part, is talking amongst themselves (and talking of the two of them). When he said he was going to go to a ballroom dance with Weiss? This wasn't what he had in mind.
[ It's only awkward because Weiss was expecting something else. You know, people of all ages, and more from her age group! (Cloud isn't exactly part of her age group afdsagsd) But perhaps this is where the difference between where she grew up and how it's normally done. Because in Atlas? She'd definitely be surrounded by people her age. ]
Oh— [ Right. Her eyes are on Cloud as he leads the way, and it's as they walk that she takes a deep breath. She's being silly again, isn't she? So she waves at the other people in the room, too, and then takes a seat amongst the empty chairs and waits for Cloud to sit down next to her. ]
Are you okay with this?
[ Her eyes dart around the room, and finds herself a bit out of place. Normally, this wouldn't be a problem for someone like Weiss— she doesn't care what other people think of her! But she doesn't want Cloud to be put in an awkward position. He's put so much effort into dressing up today, and he's told her that he'd been looking forward to this, too. ]
[ Years ago, Cloud wouldn't have been caught dead at a ballroom dance lesson seminar. But then again, years ago, he also thought he was some hotshot First Class SOLDIER who only cared for the money. He's come to learn a lot about himself since then. What he likes. What he dislikes. What he'd rather be doing. What he'd do for the sake of the people he cares for. He has to admit...he looks pretty cool in this suit. Someone may or may not be modeling when nobody is watching. Let Weiss see. ]
[ More like, she'll try to be okay. She's not one to look on the brighter side of things, but she gives him a smile when she squeezes his hand. They'd been looking forward to this! Weiss even put up a fuss when he joked earlier this morning about not going. It'd be a waste of time and effort if they backed out.
Before she can say anything more, though, one of the ladies nearby walks over to the couple. She seems very lively!
"You two look like my husband and I when he took me to our first masquerade! What's the occasion?"
Weiss blinks, then looks to Cloud for help in answering. Though, she figures it would be rude to let Cloud do all the talking! She's had many a conversation with strangers before, and the lady's being friendly. There's no reason to clam up now. ]
Oh, I, well... I thought that everyone would be in their formal attire. I guess we overdressed.
[ Completely glossing over the fact that it's her birthday. The old lady doesn't need to know! Unless Cloud brings it up, anyway...
"Oh, dear, we're all rather done with that after so many years! You're very lucky your partner wore a suit! It took me ages to convince my husband to even put on a vest and tie." She laughs heartily after saying that. As for her husband? He's somewhere in the seats, but his "Hey!" can be heard from the back. Aha... ]
[ Weiss' waned excitement in comparison to before was noticeable. And though he's tempted to say something or try and reassure her further, he doesn't want to call attention to it or pressure her either. So far? It's been a wonderful day; as far as Cloud is concerned, it's far from over either. For the time being, he holds his tongue for the sake of making the best of this. Besides! Maybe things will pick up when the actual dancing begins. The place is spacious enough and the music selection surely wouldn't be so bad.
He blinks as well as the lady approaches them. Having become a little more conversational over time, he's not about to tell her he's "Not interested" anymore- especially since she's just being amicable! He shares a glance with Weiss as he crosses his arms, prepared to speak up that it was her birthday when Weiss starts first. Then again...if he mentioned that it was her birthday, that may have brought extra attention to the huntress she may not be prepared for. ...if it happens, it happens. Cloud will just have to roll with the punches! Or, rather, the steps. ]
Ah- Thanks...
[ The little "Hey!" from the woman's husband after her teasing remark wasn't lost on him. And while he's not about to start chatting up a storm, that gets him to crack an amused half-smile. ]
Guess when you think of a ballroom, you think going all out with an outfit.
[ Weiss don't say a thing about what he wore to the first masquerade back in Camelot. ...unless she's keen on roasting him. ]
Don't suppose you'd know when things'll get started...
[ She's not gonna roast him! The two of them are practically outnumbered here. And if she puts Cloud in a bad mood in a place like this? It could be bad.
"Oh, the instructor should be here soon! He's always late... talking about his dates with the receptionist!"
Ah... there's the dirt. She can't help but laugh at that, and she just looks at Cloud to see if he's as amused as she is. Though it's as they're all laughing and getting to know one another that the dance instructor comes into the room. Definitely not in a formal attire either! Just in a fit top and leotards. Ah! Now that's something Weiss is familiar with, to. He claps as he walks to the front of the room, where the mirrors are, and calls for everyone's attention to get up and find their spots on the dance floor. It's as they're all going to their regular spots that the two new people to the class stand out like a sore thumb.
"Well, aren't you two a sight for sore eyes! Why don't the two of you stay in front?" and just like that, the other couples make way for the two of them! Ah— this is not the kind of attention Weiss would like to have! Not because she can't dance, but she just worries Cloud might feel even more awkward. ]

Ready!
[ She'll be casual when she goes out, but when she does? Cloud might actually get her to stop in her tracks. ]
no subject
no subject
] There. All better.
no subject
They make eye contact, and while she immediately looks away...he gently cups the side of her face, beckoning her to look back when he confesses, ] You're already perfect.
no subject
It's just Weiss' excuse for wanting to
climbkiss him for looking so good this afternoon. ]no subject
no subject
A kiss so magical isn't enough to make Weiss forget about the bigger picture here, at least. Because she certainly does not forget that Cloud is in a suit, and he's going to be strutting that cute butt around very, very soon. And so, she pulls away slightly, already catching her breath even if she hasn't broken a sweat yet. ]
... we'll be late if we don't go. Don't make me want to kiss you again, or else we'll never leave at this rate.
[ That was meant to be a threat. ]
no subject
You drive a hard bargain.
[ Oh. When did his arms settle around her waist? Whoops. They're not supposed to dance in here. ]
Do it again when we get back.
[ ...as he leans in for a shorter kiss. kfadhjs ]

And as it turns out? The dance lessons the Red Spring is offering? It's something a lot of tourists are looking forward to! The only problem is...
This is... awkward.
[ They're surrounded by people who are older than them. All the other participants in the class are seated, waiting for the instructor to arrive. Some of the ladies are whispering to one another as their eyes are on the blond. Oh god, do they want to be dance partners with Cloud???? ]
no subject
This wasn't what he had in mind.
... at least the dancefloor looks nice. ]
We made it, [ he says quietly. ]
no subject
(Cloud isn't exactly part of her age group afdsagsd)But perhaps this is where the difference between where she grew up and how it's normally done. Because in Atlas? She'd definitely be surrounded by people her age. ]Oh— [ Right.
no subject
[ Years ago, Cloud wouldn't have been caught dead at a ballroom dance lesson seminar. But then again, years ago, he also thought he was some hotshot First Class SOLDIER who only cared for the money. He's come to learn a lot about himself since then. What he likes. What he dislikes. What he'd rather be doing. What he'd do for the sake of the people he cares for. He has to admit...he looks pretty cool in this suit. Someone may or may not be modeling when nobody is watching.
Let Weiss see.]S'like practice for the next big one.
[ Practice that he's dressed to the nines for. ]
You okay?
no subject
Aha... ]
no subject
Don't suppose you'd know when things'll get started...
no subject
We're fine over here!
