I love you. [ She's laughing and crying at the same time and just— How can she even repay him for everything he's done for her? ] I love you so much.
[ But holding him tight like this isn't enough. She pulls back only so she can look at him again. The tears falling down her face are happy tears now, at least. Her hand lifts to touch his cheek, to get his full attention, and unintentionally, it gets her heart racing. Just like the first time confessed her feelings for him, her voice is soft and affectionate. Everything is just for him. ]
I love you, Cloud.
[ Everything. Including the silent promises she makes to him, and the promises that she's made that he already knows about— that she'll do anything to get back to him, to keep herself close to him, and to make him happy. Always. No matter what. Weiss won't accept anything less.
Now, come to think of it... how much did she miss? She looks a bit confused again, but not as worried as she was initially. ]
[ Hearing her say she loves him despite the fact he started it gets his cheeks feeling heated again. For all the times she worries about him getting tired of her, Cloud never finds it old to hear those words coming out of her mouth. It makes him think that he's done something right. That he's still heading in the right direction with her.
Doing right by her like he said he wanted to when they first got together.
Before he can so much as have a chance at brushing away the happier tears that stream down her face, she's touching his cheek and soothing him further than before. The edges of his mind still can't let go of the fact that if it wasn't for Salem. If it wasn't for Cinder or (disappointingly) Neo, that she wouldn't be hurting as badly as she was now. Instead, he leans into her hand, his own settling back into his lap as he gently smiles back at her.
That's the spirit, Weiss. Don't give up. He won't if you won't. ]
...
[ Then she asks how long she's been 'gone' for, and his expression doesn't shift all too much, too relieved and focused on the future to think of how worried he was at first. ]
Just about a day. I... —
[ Oh. Oh no. Here it comes. ]
Iii- [ S'cuse him while he blinks and yawns. Talking about sleep and days reminds him of the fact that he's gotten very little rest since she was sleeping. ] -was gonna fix you breakfast before I realized you were out.
I was gonna let the others know if you didn't wake up soon.
[ So, things are making some sense. Like what she should do now and all that. She's calm now. One thing she's yet to make sense of is what happened to her. In Prismatica, she'd disappeared for a couple of days before finding herself back in that world with new memories. Time moved forward for her. But now— ]
[ He rubs the back of his neck. How does he put this... ]
After we went to bed, you just...never woke up. I thought you were still tired till I came back and you didn't respond. You've been in bed this whole time.
[ Let her just take a moment to process this. It definitely sounds unusual, and the longer she mulls over what happened, the more she realises how scary that could have been. If Cloud didn't wake up no matter how many times she's shook him, then she would be worried to death.
What did Cloud do when he found out? How did he feel? Like that time he left her a message when she disappeared in Lunatia, she made him sad and worried. And— her gaze is soft when she looks up at him. Until it slowly contorts into a look of worry and apology. ]
Did you eat at all yesterday? Did you drink anything? [ She'd been talking about herself and her own problems this whole time that she didn't even check on him once she was calm. It's a little too late now, but doing the "emergency thing" is something she wants to do for him. ] You didn't get into a fight, did you? Have you gotten any rest?
[ He doesn't want her worrying any more than she has to. ... not that there's too much that he can do about it, nor would he blame her for it either. He put her through hell after he sacrificed himself during their Lightless mission. Ever since then, he'd grounded himself while still protecting more of those closest to him.
So he lets her sort herself through her feelings, even letting her asking as many questions as she wants to about him. This was about her and what they'll be able to do about the fate of her world down the road...but- He can't help it. When she mentions him getting into a fight, he huffs and cracks a smile. ]
I fought sleep if that counts.
[ Smartass remark aside though, he finally gets off his knees and sits down on his butt in front of her, leaning back on his hands. ]
And I ate. A little. Couldn't let the crepes go to waste... [ Elaine wouldn't have let him starve either. For the most part, what happened to Weiss has laid on the downlow. He was not looking forward to telling Ruby or Tifa about what happened if she didn't wake up. ] I've...just been here.
[ He knows her. He knows the fixed expression of concern and building 'sorry's waiting to bubble to the surface, so, hopefully before she can say anything, ]
No being sorry. You couldn't help it. [ Sighing gently through his nose, there's more life again in those deeper blues of his. ] I'm just glad I have you back.
[ Weiss is going to be worried about him no matter what. Even if they were only just friends, she'd still worry for him in this manner. He's seen how worked up she got when his Aura got unlocked and the story behind it. Now that they have a more intimate relationship, though, it's more than just worry. She cares for him, more than she does for herself. And after all the sacrifices he's made just for her, caring for him and making sure he's okay and healthy and happy is the least she can do. ]
I'm— [ Cut short when he tells her that she's not allowed to be sorry. But... look at her blue innocent eyes? 🥺 Can't she say sorry just once?
She reaches to him, placing her hand atop his. ] I know the sun is up, but won't you get some rest now? Even just for a short while?
[ Weiss won't be going back to sleep anytime soon. And tonight, Cloud might have to calm her down and make her go to sleep because she'd be afraid not to wake up again and go back to the current reality of Remnant. She doesn't want to go back just yet. She needs to do something.
For now, if Cloud does sleep? She'll check the kitchen and see if she can make some stew... ]
[ JUST- ... Aww damn it. If she says it, he won't stop her. It's a formality at this point in their relationship. He can't help but cant his head a little bit, weakly smiling at her because he knows that she's already gotten him beat. No matter what she says or does to him now, he won't be able to say no... ]
Stop that...
[ Then she surprises him all over again, crawling the little distance needed up to him so her hand rests atop his. His breath catches in his throat, bright blue eyes meeting as she pleads him to rest now. The look on his face now is no different from those times that she'd captivated him in the past- even before they were dating or he realized he was falling for her. Precious moments like this, so beautiful and precious to him that he would shield her from the world a hundred times over if it meant she'd keep smiling for him.
If they were on Prismatica still, the feeling of her smaller hand atop his would have sent a bolstered boost of pleasure through him. Instead, all he can think of is how slender it feels atop his. It faintly trembles beneath hers- not because he's tired, but because of just how raw and real this all was to him. She's so close to him that if he wanted to, he could sit right up and pull her into his lap all over again. He could embrace her and feel her hair threading through his fingers as he revels in the fact that he still has her.
He was taken from his world once, only to find her. He was taken from the 'home' he made on Prismatica and from the comfort he felt in being with Weiss...only to find her. Again. Her hand atop of his, their eyes meeting... It's just like he's said before. She'd make him fall for her over and over. ]
Yeah...
[ He wants to kiss her. He wants to hold her and kiss her so badly right now, but he can't help but feel like he still has to keep looking after her. After the turmoil she awoke from... They have to keep looking out for one another wherever they can. Cloud means it when he says he'll rest for her. But first, ]
[ She seems content with his response. That's a good dog! No resisting rest. ]
Good. Maybe we can have breakfast together before resting.
[ And as she says that, she inches closer until she's right in front of him, knees folded and seated on the backs of her legs. Their fingers lace together as she gives his hand a squeeze. ]
[ The very second that Weiss' hand squeezes his, he leans in to give her the first kiss she's gotten since waking up. Something so simple that got him flustered even just thinking about came so naturally to him at this stage. He wouldn't trade this for anything. ]
Fine. [ Carefully, he tugs on her as he starts sliding off the bed. They'll go down together like this. ] I'll coach if you want it.
[ Weiss is next to him right away as soon as they're up, letting go so she can give him a hug. She knows they both agreed to getting and making breakfast together, but... if Cloud didn't need food and rest, she would be hugging him tighter and kissing his worries away. For now, this is what she can give. ]
I'm back now, Cloud. [ Her eyes close as she rests the side of her face on his chest. He's so warm and comfortable, but she knows she's not the only ones who loves this. ] Back to you.
[ It takes some time for Weiss to let go. If it's Cloud who actually lets go first, then that's okay! They did say they would make breakfast. Going downstairs, Weiss doesn't let go of Cloud's hand, even resting her head on his arm the usual way whenever they walk together once they make it downstairs. They're welcomed by a very warm sight, though!
Elaine's already got breakfast ready! She did tell Cloud to have faith in Weiss, and she also put her faith that the young girl would come back, too. Whatever journey Weiss went on, it caused stress to the blond. He deserves this meal just as much as Weiss does for coming back. Of course, she does tell them both that she did worry, too. The two of them have become part of her home now, after all! They may not be actual family, but the two of them have looked out for her and for her farm these past few months. This is the least she could do for them.
It may not be crepes for breakfast, but Elaine's cooked some ham, scrambled eggs, sausages, and she's made some toast. Weiss pulls Cloud into the kitchen where they usually have their simple meals (the dining is for more formal occasions, after all!) and makes him plop down on the seat. Elaine, too. ]
[ Every time, Cloud has to take a second to react when Weiss' arms are thrown around him. Yet every time, it's returned with equal fervor and a comforting sigh of relief. This always feels right. The world around them constantly turns; and the troubles back home only seem to mount in scale. But through it all, the hardships and sacrifices made, the two find their solace here in the arms of one another. Here, Weiss was allowed to cry, vent her frustrations, get angry, lament, if only because she had the beating heart of a faux Ex-SOLDIER to listen to. Just like he's come to her for his own struggles and attempts to overcome them. In another life and another time, she would have been a natural part of his world... It's a good thing that Cloud has no intention of settling for anything less with Weiss.
He will manifest a future for them, where he can cherish both his family and hers. Closing his eyes, Cloud squeezes her tight as she speaks so softly about being back to him. It makes him want to never let her go. To rewind time and go to Atlas if it meant catching everyone who fell. Trying. But it's as he said before. ]
That's right.
[ One step at a time. Together. ]
— — —
[ Cloud was not expecting to have breakfast already made for them. Elaine had faith in her. She had faith in them. And it only reminds him of the new 'home' they made for themselves here. She's become less of a landlady and more of a trusted, wise consultant. A friend who lends her aging ear should it be needed. So should the day come where this farm and those who live in it were threatened? They'd best believe they had a proverbial 'knight' at the ready to defend it. ]
Sure.
[ Cloud resigns himself with a soft smile, waiting patiently for Weiss to return before he even thinks of digging into the little feast Elaine has prepared. Hands folded on the table, after sparing a warm nod with the elderly woman, he keeps his gaze fixed on the huntress busying herself with prepping coffee. Even if she wasn't looking, he's making sure she doesn't fall over for one reason or another. She only just woke up after an entire day passed out.
"Well I'll be... Seems she must have found what she was looking for after all." ]
Huh?
[ He blinks as he curiously stares at Elaine, only for the pieces to fall into place again when he remembers what they talked about the night before. The tale of the lost travelers that would be put to slumber and awaken knowing the way to go. This really did fall in line with that after all... Of course he doesn't let on to the fate of imminent fate of Atlas, Mantle or her teammates. Instead, focusing on the bright side of things. Because in a way...Weiss did find something. She found him again. ]
Yeah.
[ A beat. Two beats. ]
You didn't hafta do all thi-
[ "Again with the 'you don't hafta' spiel. Don't think I haven't heard this before. You two could use a little breather. This is the least I can do." ]
[ Cloud gets to have hot cocoa instead of coffee because he needs to sleep. Weiss doesn't tell him that as she prepares it, but he'll be able to easily smell the cocoa powder in the air once it gets mixed with some hot water and sugar. Elaine, gets coffee, on the other hand.
Preparing three beverages may take some time, so Weiss wouldn't mind if the two of them ate first! And she's still listening to them, chiming in when she can. Especially when their landlady talks about how this is the least she can do. Weiss isn't going to say anything about how she didn't have to do this. ]
We appreciate it. Thank you, Elaine. [ She serves her the cup of coffee, steaming and smelling so appetising. It'll go perfectly with her breakfast. ] And thank you for taking care of Cloud, too.
[ That's what she appreciates more than anything. It's not that Cloud can't take care of himself! He's an adult! But... throughout the year and few months they've known each other, Weiss grew to care about him. Far more than she does any other person. She wants him to be happy and to be comfortable and to not have any worries. And she may not know everything about him or may not have experienced everything he's experienced, but... she just knows in her heart that he's felt and experienced so much heartbreak and disappointment. She doesn't ever want him to experience more ever again.
With Cloud's fake coffee served a minute later, she sits down with her own mug in hand. If the two of them haven't started yet, she'll be the one to tell them to start eating already! But if they have, then it's just business as usual. ]
I... If you don't mind, Elaine, I think I'll stay home for today, too. I know I'm missing work, but I just need a day to sort things out for myself.
[ Lord knows she needs it. But she also doesn't want to have a backlog of work! Weiss can easily catch up with what she needs to do the next coming days.
"Oh, dear, take what time you need." Elaine is saying it so casually, especially when she'd been worried for the Huntress, too. Of course, if Weiss takes too long to sort things out, Elaine will have to say something about it.
Weiss has always proved herself to be responsible enough, though. It shouldn't be a problem. And with the trust she has in Cloud, and the support he seems to give her? She doesn't doubt that it will take long that so much of work will be disrupted. It'll be fine!
[ Neither one have an outright sweet tooth or craving for it, but if he could blame anyone for the increase in sugar in his life? It's the girl busying herself with the cocoa and coffee. He was expecting coffee, but he will never say no to a cup of hot cocoa from her either. Especially since, while he feels awake and aware now? That won't last long when he finally lets himself lay his head down. Used to long treks and even longer periods spent without rest... It's not that Cloud's become complacent in his life spent on Prismatica and Avalon; if anything, he's gotten stronger than before. But he never had this kind of a life to fully embrace along the way. Family and friends...but waking up next to someone like Weiss was an entirely different feeling altogether.
It grounded him. It left him feeling more tired, more often. Like he was being told it was okay to finally rest... ]
Mm. Thank you.
[ Cloud didn't want to sound ungrateful either! It's force of habit still. Once Weiss finally joins him and he thanks her with a smile, he'll set the cocoa aside to let it cool slightly so that he can dig in with the others. ]
Yeah, [ He agrees with Weiss telling her about missing out on work for the day. ] I can help later if you need.
[ After he's gotten some rest. ...assuming he wasn't still asleep by the time the afternoon passes them by. It's still early in the morning, thankfully. ]
[ It may as well be a whine from the Huntress, because she does want him to rest today. He wouldn't let her apologise for the trouble she put him through, so she won't, but it doesn't mean that Weiss won't try to make it up to him.
She can't exactly tell him not to work, though, especially since she won't be doing hers to rest and recuperate. But at the same time, she really wants him to calm down and rest. There's nothing wrong with not moving. Even just for a day.
Elaine doesn't mind either way. So long as the two of them get the rest that they need. Weiss doesn't say anything else about it anymore. They can eat their breakfast, have their coffee or cocoa, and then go about their way! For the Huntress, she's determined to get Cloud to rest after they eat. He needs sleep, and he needs to be comfortable. And on a more selfish note, she wants to be next to him as he rests. She wants to hold his hand and just stay there, even if she won't be going to bed, too. She wants to slowly run her hands through his hair until he falls asleep on her lap. She wants to be close to him right now.
Once breakfast is done, and the kitchen's been cleaned up and their dishes have been washed, Weiss is quick to tug on Cloud's hand. No going anywhere else but the bedroom now! They'll close the curtains so it'll be darker in the room. She'll even fluff his pillow and get the sheets down already so he can easily climb in. ]
[ The 'whine' doesn't fall on deaf ears, luckily. But rather than argue with her over what he can or can't do, he instead sighs softly through his nose, gently smiling behind a forkful of fluffy eggs. He gets it. She wants to take care of him, while he can't help but feel that she's the one who needs it more. Though he doesn't completely clue into it, given more time he'll figure out that taking care of him? That's what helps give Weiss a sense of solace and peace. Yet he concedes silently, finishing his breakfast and cocoa. After having a nice, relaxing morning together and getting everything tidied up, he's only just finished placing the last plate away by the time he feels his hand being tugged on by Weiss.
Elaine can't help but stifle a laugh behind the back of her hand at the sight of these two. Ahh... To be young and in love. They're both strong-spirited, but she's always rooting for the young Huntress, especially when it came to guiding someone like Cloud. She may ramble a lot. But he thinks too much. Even still... ]
Promise is a— [ Oh no. Here it comes. ] —....... [ Yawn. ] promise.
[ But instead of crawling into bed straightaway, by the time she's fluffed the pillow and gotten the sheets down and prepared for him, he instead puts a hand on her shoulder and coaxes her to face him. ]
Hey. C'mere.
[ Cloud wants to hold her again. It's been a whirlwind 24+ hours, and while he still fully intends on taking care of her, the revelations behind what she'd been through still rattled him deep down. He talked a big talk. And he fully intends to walk a big walk if it meant saving Atlas and ultimately staying with her, no matter what. But the thought of her falling along with the others... It plays right back into the helpless well of despair that he found himself sinking deeper into once before. But he doesn't let it consume him. Instead, he holds onto everything precious to him.
This wasn't just about one comforting the other anymore. This was something mutual. And whether they outright say it aloud or not... This is something they both need. He wraps his arms around her once more, hugging her to his chest as he closes his eyes, breathing deep of her as he finally drops his guard further. While he doesn't break down like the time they emerged from the soul pods, when Cloud exhales, it's heavier than before- like he's been holding this in for so long for the sake of being strong. ]
[ Cloud can hold her for as long as he likes. Weiss would never say no to him, especially not at a time like this. Not when she's so scared of so many things, and tonight, when it dawns on her that if she goes to bed, she might not wake up for a while again, she would want to be held again. While she doesn't start crying again, her shoulders shake once she's wrapped her arms around him, a shaky breath being let out both in relief and fear. ]
I love you so much.
[ She never imagined love to feel so intense. Just being able to see Cloud everyday makes her so happy already. If they were ever torn apart, she really wouldn't know what to do. Being with him and forging a future with him is something she wants with all her heart; while everything else growing up was decided for her, this is something she's committed to on her own. To think that something so simple as holding a person's hand or seeing him smile sends her heart soaring... she really has changed.
She doesn't ever want to go. She doesn't ever want him to go. And the prospect of something powerful that she can't control separating the two of them hurts her so much. It's not something she wants to tell him, though. Cloud's given her hope that there's a way to fix things in Remnant. Probably not forever, but... it's something Weiss is holding onto because she refuses to just let it end the way it likely would end. To show fear at a time like this would mean she's disregarding what Cloud had said. And besides, her trust in Cloud weighs more than the fear in her heart. ]
Can we stay like this for a bit?
[ She knows she's the one pushing him to rest already, but... she really, really wants this right now. ]
[ Just when she asks him if they can stay like this for a while longer, Cloud's already gently swaying with her in his arms. Not necessarily a dance, but almost cradling her against him. His tone softens further then, embracing the warmth that she brings. ]
As long as you want, Weiss.
[ ... .... ..... ]
Heads up, I'm sneaking you breakfast in bed eventually.
[ Hah... As if Weiss couldn't fall even more in love now. Cloud sure likes to test limits.
Her heart is thumping like mad at the prospect of breakfast in bed. A morning meal made especially for her by the person she loves. Could it be that she's putting too much meaning into this? She doesn't think so. These things just make her so happy. It's as simple as that. ]
[ Like she could ever forget that day... But she hasn't forgotten a single day she's spent with Cloud. Each day becomes more meaningful than the last the longer they spend time together. ]
Oh- thought we were talkin' about surprises in general.
[ With a kiss to the top of her head, he slowly stops rocking her in his arms, giving her another good squeeze before beginning to draw back a little. But not enough to get out of her embrace. Enough so that he can look down to her properly if she were to tilt her head up. ]
Lifting a hand up, he tenderly brushes aside some of her bangs again- a force of habit even when she asks him whether he's sleepy or not. The answer is plain and simple. ]
[ Her eyes close and she tilts her head to even follow his touch. Weiss hopes that it's not too selfish of her to want more of this... She knows he needs rest, but. . . a little longer, and she'll be okay. ]

[ But holding him tight like this isn't enough. She pulls back only so she can look at him again. The tears falling down her face are happy tears now, at least. [ And as she says that, she inches closer until she's right in front of him, knees folded and seated on the backs of her legs. Their fingers lace together as she gives his hand a squeeze. ]
You're not allowed to help.

I'll prepare coffee.
[ Just the way they both like it! 🎵 ]

Together. ]

They will all be fine. ]

It's time to rest.

I got you.

no subject
[ Just when she asks him if they can stay like this for a while longer, Cloud's already gently swaying with her in his arms. Not necessarily a dance, but almost cradling her against him. His tone softens further then, embracing the warmth that she brings. ]
As long as you want, Weiss.
[ ... .... ..... ]
Heads up, I'm sneaking you breakfast in bed eventually.
no subject
Her heart is thumping like mad at the prospect of breakfast in bed. A morning meal made especially for her by the person she loves. Could it be that she's putting too much meaning into this? She doesn't think so. These things just make her so happy. It's as simple as that. ]
I haven't even surprised you once!
no subject
[ Cloud smiles to himself before, in a reminiscent tone, ]
Remember surprising me with a getaway to Lystellus?
[ And setting it up as something serious and worrying to get him to come post-haste? ]
no subject
[ Like she could ever forget that day... But she hasn't forgotten a single day she's spent with Cloud. Each day becomes more meaningful than the last the longer they spend time together. ]
Are you counting it?
no subject
Oh- thought we were talkin' about surprises in general.
[ With a kiss to the top of her head, he slowly stops rocking her in his arms, giving her another good squeeze before beginning to draw back a little. But not enough to get out of her embrace. Enough so that he can look down to her properly if she were to tilt her head up. ]
no subject
[ They weren't! They were talking about breakfast in bed!
And she does look up at him, tired eyes but a lot of her usual Weiss-rendition of cheer seems to be back. ]
Sleepy?
no subject
Lifting a hand up, he tenderly brushes aside some of her bangs again- a force of habit even when she asks him whether he's sleepy or not. The answer is plain and simple. ]
Sorta.
