I would imagine you would have attachment to a weapon if you made it with your own hands.
[ Because, really...! But there's nothing wrong if you keep changing it. Weiss just can't imagine something like that for herself. Making weapons is no easy task, after all. ]
That was what you put up in our apartment, wasn't it? In Lunatia, I mean.
[ Cloud didn't ask for much adjustments to Weiss' apartment, so it's easy to remember what did change when he moved in. Such as a place to hang such a large sword. Other things included Cloud's own corner in Weiss' walk-in closet, his own shelf in the living room, and a space for his desk. All of which were very much welcome, of course. Thinking about it now puts a warm smile to her face. They'd only just started living a life together before they found themselves here. It's not quite the same now, but... it's still so much better than being worlds apart. ]
[ That's where Cloud and Weiss separate on their weapons. While the Fusion Sword was the first weapon made exclusively for him, the attachment he feels with the Buster Sword is heavier in a way. Something that he didn't mind sharing with Weiss after all. It's not a somber conversation to have- not anymore. ]
Before the Buster Sword, I'd just used standard-issue firearms. First it belonged to Angeal. Then to Zack. Now it's with me.
After we defeated Sephiroth, I thought it was about time to put it to rest. [ He rubs the back of his head as he confesses, ] I...didn't take good care of it at first.
[ But he's still smiling in reminisce all the same. ]
[ Zack and Angeal! She's heard him mention the name Zack before, but she never really paid much attention to it, thinking it was just someone in passing. But if his sword holds a lot of meaning to Cloud, then he must be important to him.
Though... she can't imagine they're still alive in Cloud's world if he's using their sword. If she's wrong, then she is, and will apologise for it. There's not much she can go off off, after all. ]
[ Her question gets him to pause. Not necessarily out of a reluctance to say. But...there's only one of them that he knew really well. Still, as they continue to walk, their pace slowing some, Cloud keeps eye contact with Weiss when he starts. ]
Angeal was...Zack's mentor. Another 1st Class SOLDIER like Sephiroth. Can't say I knew him too well. But...he inspired quite a few people. He put his honor as SOLDIER above everything else.
[ It's a long story behind how he defected from Shinra, put Zack in shambles with his death by his own hands, and the ramifications of his death and the legacy that would carry on from it. So for now, Cloud decides to stick to the fonder things- something that gets much easier to do when he starts talking about a certain someone. ]
And Zack. He... [ He pauses again, only to think back on the day they first met. A fateful mission that took them up the snowy terrain of Modeoheim. Despite being a member of SOLDIER, something Cloud aspired to be, he connected to him so easily; he wasn't intimidated by the man in any way. They found equal footing...and bonding over being backwater experts. Cloud laughs just then. A soft, boyish laugh with a gentle shake of his shoulders as he stares ahead. ] Guess you could say he was a dummy.
We met on a mission through the mountains, when I got put on the same assignment as him. He's a country boy...just like me. He'd put anyone and everyone else first before he even thought about himself. And...we became best friends while we worked for Shinra.
[ She's already told him before— that it makes her happy when he talks about himself and she learns more about him. He trusts her enough to let her in, and she gets to know him better a little bit more. And as devoted as they are to one another, their relationship is still rather young. Weiss imagines their bond to be unbreakable now, but it only grows stronger when moments like these come.
She can't be entirely too happy, though. Because she knows the conclusion to this story won't be a happy one. ]
[ Hearing her say that he followed his example... She didn't know Zack well. He doesn't even know if she ever got the chance to run into him in the times he was alive back on Lunatia. But still, hearing this from her puts him at ease. And he smiles for that. ]
Yeah...
If it weren't for him, I wouldn't be here. When he died...I inherited his honor. His dreams.
[ He glances back to Weiss as he says this, still wearing a calm smile through it all. ]
Took me a while to get there, but... I think I'm doing pretty good.
[ Weiss isn't aware that she's met Zack before. Called him an idiot, even, but... maybe it's best that he remains a mystery to the Schnee. And there are a lot of things she's not familiar with when it comes to Cloud. He's told her stories of how he was before, but she's never really experienced the real thing.
What she does know, however, is how he is now. How he's doing, what he likes, what he doesn't like. The lengths he'd go for to protect someone he cares about. To this day, being in the same situation as they were in the Lightless terrifies her. It makes her heart heavy. But... she can't blame him for any of it. Not anymore. ]
Yeah. [ She gives his hand a squeeze. ] I think so, too.
[ The smile he wears grows a little more, his gaze softening. Somber as the memories will always be, there's a lot of good to come from them too. ]
When we get back to Gaia, [ Not if. When. The same went for Remnant too. Regardless of the stakes, he's going to do his damnest to try for her. ] I'll take you to see him.
Till then... [ He squeezes her hand right back. ] Kinda want another iced tea.
[ An airy "hah" escapes him. Well, she's not wrong! The jovial cook was easy to spot. Chances were if the cook happened to overhear them? He'd think nothing of it. As they make their way back, he reflects on what they just talked about. Between their weapons, the importance of them...and how important Zack was to him when it came to his own personal growth...
"Took me a while to get there, but... I think I'm doing pretty good." ]
[ There's nothing to be thanking her for, really, but... she won't tell him to stop doing it if that's what makes him feel better. So long as she can give him a comfortable and safe space to be himself, then she's done a good job. ]
